Constipation, is it holding you back ?

Don’t underestimate the impact of constipation—on both children’s and adults’ mental wellbeing and mood.

In clinic, I’ve often found that even if someone is having daily bowel movements, it doesn’t always mean they’re fully evacuating.

Incomplete elimination can contribute to:

✅ Brain fog

✅ Irritability or low mood

✅ Sleep disruption

✅ Skin issues

✅ Bloating, painful wind or low appetite

Regularity is important—but so is quality. If you're not sure whether things are functioning as they should, it's worth investigating further.

At Holistics, we regularly use functional GI mapping to uncover what’s really going on inside the gut—especially when it comes to slow motility.

Some of the common underlying causes we identify include:

Dysregulated vagus nerve tone – affecting the gut-brain connection and disrupting the signals that coordinate digestion

Low digestive function – this might show up as reduced stomach acid, low digestive enzyme production, or poor bile quality, all of which impact how your body processes and moves food

Bacterial overgrowths (such as methanogens) – these microbes produce methane gas, which slows down peristalsis (gut movement) and contributes to further imbalance in the gut environment

🌿 If you’re experiencing bloating, constipation, or sluggish digestion, identifying the root cause is the first step toward restoring balance.
