Why Sleep matters ? and how to get more !

What does sleep actually do for us ?

✨Cleans out the waste products in our brain ✨Correlates to longer life span and improved outcomes when ageing ✨Improves our recall memory ✨Allows for rest and regeneration in the body ✨Regulates our circadian rhythm meaning hormones fire and body processes occur in time with our light exposure ✨ Increases emotional bandwidth and mental capacity to adapt to everyday challenges ✨Maintains our cortisol awakening response which communicates with our immune system

How can we get better sleep ? It starts with preparation.

Unfortunately the way we live our lives is not in line with the requirements of our nervous system and biochemical pathways to reach optimum sleep. Changing habits before bed will not happen over night so when starting to work on your sleep it is important to take it slow, start with 1 or 2 days and increase slowly.

See below steps you can take to improve your steps ✳Set up your routine ideally you want around 40 mins wind down time BUT start with 10-15mins ✳Eliminate blue light- no tv, phone (aeroplane mode), laptop or computer. ✳Find something you like to fill this time makes you feel calm and present Example: some yoga stretches, a nice shower, some ambient music, journaling, reading something for joy, meditation ✳Finish eating food 3 hours before wind down starts ✳Team up with a Naturopath or Nutritionist for herbals/nutraceuticals that increase our bodies natural sedative hormones and re establish your cortisol awakening response

Head to the bookings page to work with me for better sleep, together we will implement sleep hygiene and take advantage of natural supplements and herbals that promote sleep pathways and optimise sleep patterns.
